HOW TO STUDY EFFECTIVELY

THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAYS TO SUCCEED IN STUDIES.
The most common barrier to success encountered by college students is lack of effective study
skill and exam preparation. For sure, everyone of us wants to succeed in life. If you are one of the students who answer this question, “How do you study for your test?” is “I go over my notes and memorise everything that will be tested” then you need to take a serious look at your study skills. Actually there are three effective ways to succeed in studies such as jotting down notes in lectures or classes, revising the lessons from time to time and having enough sleep to keep one’s good health.

First of all, we need to jot down important notes during lectures. Notes will help solidify material in your hand and will also serve as important study method before sitting for a test. Be sure to write down everything important but try not to write every word spoken. For example, take notes on what the lecturer is saying and use different colours of pen for highlighting important ideas. This will help us to become more attentive and be an active part of listening and learning process. Images and words in colours make us remember important points of the related topics easily. For some students, it is a good suggestion for them to do mind- mapping in the ways they prefer. Therefore, it is a fact that jotting down notes really helps in studies.

Secondly, we should revise the lessons from time to time. Research has shown that reviewing new materials within 24 hours of hearing increases our retention on that material by about 60%. This means that we will be 60% ahead of the game the next time we walk into class. If we want to significantly reduce the time necessary to prepare for exams, this is the way to do it. We can rewrite notes to recap the syllabus tested before exams. By doing so, we can memorize the facts in a more strategic way. In addition to that, we must put effort into homework and assignments and do regular practice tests to ensure complete understanding about certain chapters. Never ever procrastinate as this will keep us stressed up of not finishing our work on time. Spending some time to do practices is beneficial as practice is vital in reinforcing memory. This is because practice not only makes perfect but makes actual test easy as well. Thus, it is clear that by doing some revisions, we will be more confident in answering the questions in exams.

Last, having enough sleep every night can ensure our good health. Children are encouraged to sleep at least 8 hours per day in order to perform well in class. Whereas adults should relax themselves by getting enough sleep despite  busy working lifestyles. We as students are encouraged to sleep at least 8 hours per day in order to perform well in class. A good night sleep makes you feel energized and alert for the next day. Sleep also will improve your memories concentration skills and reduce the level of stress. Indeed, having enough sleep is one of the most effective way to succeed in studies.

In conclusion, it is a fact that we can achieve success by jotting down notes, revising the chapters consistently and having enough sleep every night. We must practice these ways to succeed in studies.    Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

ARGUMENTATIVE - OUTLINE

1.Book Vouchers for Students Should be Abolished

Introduction:
·         BB1M-introduced by 5th Prime Minister,Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Abdul Razak since 2011
·         For students pursuing tertiary studies-buy reading material and stationaries
·         TS: Agree -Book voucher should be abolished because students tend to misuse them, retailers take the advantage to gain more profits, and government should allocate the money for more effective project.

Point 1:
Students tend to misuse the book vouchers given to them

·         EL: take for granted-buy unnecessary products-not related to their studies
·         EL: against main objective of BB1M-to reduce students financial burden
·         EG: use to buy external hard disks, earphones
·         EL: students sell or auction off-for quick cash
·         EG: unscrupulous individuals-exchange-lower amount of cash
·         C: Thus, books voucher should be abolished because students tend to misuse the book vouchers to wrong ways.

Point 2:
Retailers take the advantage to gain more profits

·         EL: raise the price of goods
·         EL: students- no choice-vouchers only acceptable in selected store
·         EG: some products-low quality-do not worth the value
·         EL: students –are deceived-consumer’s right deprived
·         EL: money is the root of evil-money minded-grab the chance-play dirty
·         C: Therefore, the retailers for sure will take advantage on student’s book voucher in order to gain more profit because the use of the voucher is limited.

Point 3:
Budget for project BB1M should be allocated for more effective projects

·         EL: according to PM-allocated RM 325 million-to benefit 1.3 million of tertiary students
·         EL: budget derived from public funds-as tax payers-undoubtedly do not want it to benefit some unimportant ones.
·         EL: large amount of money-spend to care for the welfare-underprivileged
·         EG: build low cost houses-upgrade hospital facilities-free meals for impoverished children
·         C:Thus, beside the giving the book vouchers for student, the money should be used for needy  in the country in order to help them to gain more better life.

Conclusion:
·         Restate TS
·         More disadvantage than advantage-should be terminated

ACTIVITIES DONE AT OLD FOLKS HOME

THE MOST SUITABLE ACTIVITIES THAT COULD BE CARRIED OUT AT OLD FOLK HOME

Old-folks home is a centre for the elders who are homeless. People who stay there have different reasons why they are there. Some go there willingly and many are sent by their children. As concerned citizens, we should make them happy and forget their sadness for awhile. We should think the most suitable activities that could be carried out at old folk home. The activities that can be done there are doing social activities, giving donations and also involving in physical activities.

First, we can entertain the old folks with social activities. For example, we can throw a birthday party. When having a birthday party, all residents can participate. The residents can participate in baking and decorating the cakes. Secondly, we can play board games. The board games are Sahiba, chess and others. These activities are good for the residents as they can feel something that they could enjoy and they could get closer to each others. Other than board games and birthday party, going for a trip is also recommended. These programs such as picnic and going for a  tour to certain places can make the residents happy and could give a chance for them to feel free and relaxed. Therefore, social activities are suitable activities that can be done in old folks homes because these help the residents to be happy, relaxed and have the chance to communicate with each other.

The next activity that can be done is giving donations to the old folks home. Donations can make the residents feel cared and appreciated by the community. As we know, the residents there live in moderation and just spend what they have. In order to give donations, we should check out the total number of inmates. By checking the total number of inmates, we could know the average amount of money that we could donate. The donations can be done through all sorts of ways such as donations by giving a certain amount of money, donating clothes and furniture to them. By giving donations to old folks home, we can help them to build a better place for them to live and at the same time these donations can bring some life and happiness to them.

The last one is physical activities which are designed to promote physical and mental health.  So they are required to have strong and energetic physical and metal. Thus, we must ensure that the activities are run smoothly and can avoid any emergency cases as we know that they already aged. Among the activities that can be carried out are Tai Chi, gardening and also having pet therapy.  Resident will have fun doing this in groups. They also will enjoy chatting and sharing stories while gardening. While stroking the pets, elders can share their feelings. Thus, it is clear that physical activities are good activities that can be done at old folks home because these can help them to keep boredom and depression at bay.

In conclusion, there are so many   activities that can be carried out at old folks home such as social activities, giving donations and also involving in physical activities.  We, as caring young persons must to take part in doing charity work in order to motivate us how to appreciate the elderly.
